Coro FM profile
Coro FM is the Kikuyu-language regional station of the state-owned Kenya Broadcasting Corporation, on 99.5 FM in Nairobi. KBC also lists it on 102.3 FM in Nyeri and 99.7 FM in Nakuru. It carries news, current affairs, music and community programming in Kikuyu for Nairobi, Nyeri, Nakuru and the wider Mount Kenya region.
KBC started Coro FM in December 2000 for Kikuyu speakers in Nairobi and the Mount Kenya region, according to the corporation's Wikipedia entry. That put it among KBC's earliest dedicated vernacular FM stations. It arrived soon after liberalisation opened the airwaves to private rivals such as Kameme FM and Inooro FM.
Sister stations include the national Swahili service Radio Taifa, KBC English Service, the Eastern and Western Services, and regional vernacular stations such as Pwani FM, Kitwek FM, Minto FM, Mayienga FM, Mwatu FM, Mwago FM, Ingo FM, Nosim FM, Iftiin FM and Ngemi FM. KBC is a state corporation set up under Cap 221 of the Laws of Kenya. It is headquartered on Harry Thuku Road in Nairobi.
