Gukena FM is a Kikuyu-language commercial station in the Radio Africa Group stable. A 2019 Kenyans.co.ke frequency list puts it on 92.8 FM.

The Communications Authority of Kenya's June 2026 register shows its FM licence held by Digital Decoders Distributors Limited. That company shares a Nairobi postal address with Radio Africa Limited. Gukena targets Kikuyu speakers in Nairobi and the Mount Kenya region with music, talk and entertainment.

Radio Africa announced the station in February 2016. The Star reported that it would launch on 5 March 2016 at the Senators' Golf Day in Nyeri County. It would broadcast from Nyeri to neighbouring counties and take the group's radio count to six. Sister stations include Kiss 100, Classic 105, Radio Jambo and East FM, and the group publishes The Star.

Gukena did not stay in Nyeri. In a 2023 interview reported by Kenyans.co.ke, presenter Timothy Wagura Githui recalled management opening a Nairobi station and closing the Nyeri branch, which put the Nyeri staff at risk. Githui, the lead host in Nyeri, kept his job by moving to Nairobi. He became known for Saturday mugithi shows.

Njoki wa Mburu, formerly of Kameme FM, joined in 2017. The Star reported her hosting the breakfast show as of December 2020. Comedian and MC Mercy Wangari Nguri, known on air as Aunty Jemimah, announced in January 2024 that she was leaving after seven years. She had hosted a weekday 3pm to 7pm show and a Sunday afternoon programme.
