Inooro FM is a Kikuyu-language station owned by Royal Media Services. It broadcasts in Nairobi on 98.9 FM.
Launched in 2003, it turned 23 in July 2026. Citizen Digital says it has more than two million daily listeners and over five per cent of national radio listenership.
Inooro is the traditional Kikuyu stone for sharpening knives and axes, and its stated mission is to sharpen listeners' minds. Its signature tune, 'Muugi ni Mutaare', means 'the wise accept counsel'. It calls itself 'the home of kindness and generosity'.
Some pioneer presenters came from Radio Citizen, then broadcasting in three languages. Kenyans.co.ke has reported that Inooro's arrival, backed by Royal Media's resources, put heavy pressure on the older Kikuyu station Kameme FM.
It also covers the Mt Kenya region on Murang'a 96.9 FM, Nyeri 97.8 FM, Embu 102.0 FM and Meru 95.1 FM, and further afield Nakuru 88.9 FM, Eldoret 107.0 FM and Londiani 89.9 FM.
Head of Radio Jeff Kuria, who joined on 26 January 2007, hosts the long-running breakfast show Hagaria, with veteran broadcaster Benjamin Wangari as his deputy. Other shows include mid-morning Thiririka Reloaded with Wakarindi wa Ndiithi and Simon Kamonde, lunchtime's Kurikiria, afternoon drive Cua Cua and late-night Keera. On Sundays, Ngogoyo plays six hours of classic Kikuyu music from noon.
Former Head of Radio Gathoni wa Muchomba later became MP for Githunguri. Royal Media also runs Inooro TV.
