It came in KBC's 2011 rollout of vernacular services, with Nosim FM, Minto FM, Kitwek FM and Mwago FM. Mwatu FM and Ingo FM followed in 2012. The new stations were meant to bring the public broadcaster back into regional language markets led by private networks.

KBC is a state corporation set up under Cap 221 of the Laws of Kenya, headquartered on Harry Thuku Road, Nairobi. Sister services include Radio Taifa, KBC English Service, the Eastern and Western Services, Coro FM and Pwani FM. Current presenters and shows are unconfirmed.
