Mulembe FM profile

Mulembe FM is a Luhya-language station owned by Royal Media Services. It broadcasts in Nairobi on 97.9 FM, in western Kenya on 99.0 FM and 99.2 FM, and in Eldoret on 95.8 FM.

It serves the Luhya people, whom it calls the Mulembe Nation, and their many sub-groups. Royal Media says it has been on air for nearly two decades. Its motto is 'Omwoyo kwa Baluhya', and the schedule mixes news, talk shows and Luhya cultural programmes with many styles of music.

Weekdays begin with the inspirational Tsikhabi Mumabwibwi (4am to 6am) and the current affairs breakfast Bukha Bushiere (6am to 10am), billed as setting the day's agenda. Tinyirira ('work hard') runs mid-morning, then youth show Mulembe Baze and evening drive Kalakala. Weekends include the weekly lingala show Witole, Lipala, a traditional show built around isukuti music, Luhya music show Etsiafuma, sports programme Emibayo Extra and Rhumba Africa.

Royal Media has since added two dialect stations, Sulwe FM for Bukusu speakers and Vuuka FM for the Maragoli community. Mulembe FM still serves the wider Luhya audience.
