Muuga FM profile

Muuga FM is a Kimeru-language station owned by Royal Media Services, serving Kenya's upper Eastern region. It started in 2005, and a 2019 Kenyans.co.ke frequency list placed it on 88.9 FM. Royal Media says the signal covers most of the region, including Meru South, Maara, Imenti South, Imenti North, Meru Central, Buuri, Tigania West, Tigania East, Igembe North, Igembe East, Tharaka North and Tharaka South, and spills into Isiolo, Moyale, Marsabit and Mwingi.

'Muuga', the common greeting of the Ameru people, means 'how are you'. The slogan is 'Kaju ka Ameru'. Royal Media describes a blend of mature, informative and youthful content that keeps Ameru culture and identity alive. Alongside news come sport, comedy, music and discussion of politics, social issues, the economy and education.

Weekdays open with Kembura Nkoro (4am to 6am) and Ntungo ya Nyoni (6am to 10am), which Royal Media calls the leading breakfast show among Kimeru stations. Other shows include Nthurima Ngugi, youth programme Mwenjoyo and drive show Mwaago na Nkanya. Weekend favourites include Ringa Ime, the sports magazine Ntherano Bienini and Chunga Kiariki, on air since the station began.
