Mwatu FM profile
Mwatu FM is the Kikamba-language regional station of the state-owned Kenya Broadcasting Corporation. KBC lists it on 93.1 FM in Makueni, and the corporation's Wikipedia entry dates its launch to 2012.
It came in KBC's 2011 and 2012 wave of vernacular services, which also brought Nosim FM (Maasai), Minto FM (Ekegusii), Kitwek FM (Kalenjin), Mwago FM (Meru), Mayienga FM (Dholuo) and Ingo FM (Luhya). These stations were KBC's answer to the popularity of private vernacular networks in the 2000s.
Mwatu FM serves Kamba-speaking listeners with news, public information, music and community programming. Rivals include private Kamba stations such as Royal Media's Musyi FM.
KBC is a state corporation set up under Cap 221 of the Laws of Kenya, headquartered on Harry Thuku Road in Nairobi. Sister services include Radio Taifa, KBC English Service and the Eastern and Western Services. Current presenters and shows are unconfirmed.
