Radio Maria Kenya profile
Radio Maria Kenya, headquartered in Murang'a, is the Kenyan member of the World Family of Radio Maria, an international Catholic network founded in Italy in 1987. Its website lists 88.1 FM in Murang'a and 90.0 FM in Nyeri, and offices on the third floor of the CDM Centenary Building in Murang'a. Programming follows the Radio Maria model of liturgy, catechesis, prayer such as the Holy Rosary and Divine Mercy devotions, and Catholic music. It is aimed at Catholic listeners in Central Kenya and beyond.
In the Communications Authority of Kenya's June 2026 register, Radio Maria Kenya holds a community FM licence for Radio Maria FM (March 2019, Murang'a address) and two commercial FM licences from January 2022, for Radio Maria Nairobi and Radio Maria Kisumu. The Catholic Diocese of Nyeri holds a separate Radio Maria Nyeri licence, issued in October 2022. Our source listing gives a Nairobi frequency of 107.3 FM, which we could not confirm.
Like other Radio Maria stations, it is funded mainly by listeners, partly through the network's annual Mariathon fundraiser. Archived 2016 pages on its website mention preparations to open a Nyeri sub-station on 15 August 2016 under director Father Samuel Njigua, backed by the Archbishop of Nyeri. The site carries messages in Kikuyu as well as English.
