Radio Waumini profile
Radio Waumini is the Catholic station of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops (KCCB), broadcasting in English and Swahili on 88.3 FM in Nairobi. The Communications Authority of Kenya's June 2026 register shows its FM licence held by Waumini Communication Limited, issued on 9 November 2022.
The late Vice President Michael Kijana Wamalwa officially launched the station on 6 July 2003, according to a KCCB book marking its 20th anniversary in 2023. At its third anniversary in 2006 it was described as Kenya's first Catholic radio station. Independent Catholic News reported then that it ran 24 hours a day, with Daily Devotion, Mass and the Holy Rosary among its main daily programmes. It relayed Vatican Radio news bulletins in English and Kiswahili, and EWTN programmes.
Father Martin Wanyoike, of the founding team, was manager in 2006. The anniversary book lists former directors Renato Kizito, Martin Wanyoike and Charles Kinyua, and carries a message from Adelaide Ndilu, director as of 2023.
The KCCB credits the station with helping grow a wider network of Catholic diocesan stations, many of whose presenters and managers trained at Radio Waumini. Listeners fund it partly through the Friends of Radio Waumini programme. It serves Catholic and wider Christian audiences in Nairobi with liturgy, prayer, teaching and music.
